“I look forward to a wonderful year ahead…”
That’s how I
ended 2019 with sheer hope, charisma, and zeal in my heart.
.
.
.
Here we are,
standing at the culmination of 2020, but, all that hope, charisma, and zeal is
crushed and buried so deep that it’s going to take a couple of years to
excavate them. It’s like 2020 has been a stumbling block – so big, that
irrespective of the strength, agility, endurance, or stamina of a person (i.e. its
overall socio-economic status) it was bound to get stumbled at least
once this year. The mere difference being, some stumbled - almost fell, got
injured, got bruises, but, somehow managed to stand with full stature all again.
While for some, this stumbling block turned catastrophic and wreaked havoc
that they couldn’t stand ever again. Also, being fallen permanently, they made
their families and kith handicapped for life.
No doubt,
2020 has been a jinxed year for almost all the people of the world. Be it one of
the Forbes most powerful persons of the world – American President Donald Trump,
one of the fittest persons of the world – football legend Cristiano Ronaldo,
‘the Shahenshah of Bollywood’ – Amitabh Bachchan or the Bharat Ratna awardee
and former President of India – late Pranab Mukherjee…the list is so long that
it can keep going until the next pandemic. Thus, it is quite clear that no single
section of society has been aloof with COVID-19. Also, the issues like migrant
crisis, economies plunging to the gravest levels of all time, has put the lives of
millions of people in jeopardy and increased unemployment like never before, which unfortunately increased the agony of the poor as-well-as middle class (also for the rich to some
extent).

Besides the whole melancholy created by the COVID-19, 2020 has been a bane year due to many
more reasons. Be it the forest fires of Australia – one of the worst wildlife
disasters in modern history, harming 3 billion innocent animals or the sad demise of true stalwarts of Bollywood - Irrfan Khan and Sushant Singh Rajput.
Be it the social unrest explosion in many parts of the world like Anti-CAA protests
in Delhi and the ‘Black Lives Matter’ protests in America. Be it the
unprecedented death of Basketball-legend Kobe Bryant and his daughter in a helicopter crash leaving basketball-lovers throughout the world heartbroken or
a massive explosion in a large amount of stored ammonium nitrate in Beirut,
Lebanon, causing at least 204 deaths. Be it the border flare-up locking the two
Asian giants – India and China in a tussle or the locust attacks in India and
Africa, deteriorating the already worst and putting serious concerns over food
security and damaging vast areas of crops.
Well…as there’s
always a blessing in disguise. It’s not that 2020 has been a ‘bad’ only.
Though, very few, there definitely have been some goods also. For Joe Biden, Kamala Harris, and the democrats – 2020 has brought sheer delight at
least in the last 2 months (and for the next 4 years obviously). Be it the
growing solidarity between various sections of society – the police personnel,
the doctors, the healthcare workers, the frontline workers…all have worked in
harmony with each other and given the best out of their profession for the good
of mankind. Be it the widespread increase in the use of personal hygiene methods –
wearing a mask, washing hands frequently (these two, keeping out of the context
of Corona may not seem that important for most of the people. But they do have
indispensable benefits on people’s health in long term). Be it the revolution
in education and the professional sector with much attention being given to online
education and work-from-home. Be it identifying the peace-unfriendly sections
of society (incidences we heard quite often at the beginning of the pandemic). And,
last but not the least, the improving relations between the various nations of
the world. (Taking India as the best example – exporting whopping 50
million hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) tablets to the US, exporting PPEs to neighbour
countries and biggest being extending medical and other assistance to more than
150 countries in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic). At a time when many countries
are promoting vaccine nationalism, India’s generosity must be revered.
2020 has
indeed been a hell-worst of a year. In the future, it will definitely be counted as
the ‘most doomed year’ of the 20th century. (Deliberately using the
superlative form of ‘doom’).
Anyways….anyways!!!!
With a deep
sigh and a captivating smile on our face, let us all bid adieu to 2020 and cordially
welcome 2021 keeping all the laments aside. Let us all thank Almighty for
helping us getting over the most complicated phase of our life and practice
divine faith in Him to grant mankind – the power to face further ‘stumbling
blocks.’
More power,
More prayers,
More love.
