When time scolds : A conversation with 'Uncle Time'

 2021…you won’t be missed, I am sorry!

Here we are, six days to the new year, 2022. Years are passing like months and months like days. What is this happening, someone please stop? What’s wrong with ‘Uncle Time’? Why is he running this fast? Is he high on weed, or an Alsatian is running after him? I remember the previous new year; it feels like it was just a month before. Seems like a ‘dark thriller' movie called ‘life’ is playing at a 10X speed. Someone, please bring it down to normal. It’s giving me a giddy feeling in the form of resentment and anxiety. Running at this abnormally fast pace may be fatal, and there may be high chances of an accident with a compound fracture in ‘smile and happiness’ for life.

Got a chance to have a word with 'Uncle Time' this morning. Putting down the insightful conversation:

“Hello Time Uncle, how are you? Aren’t your legs hurting? You have run exceptionally fast this year?”

Hey Human, bad joke! Don’t talk nonsense!

“Aye, don’t be angry Uncle. I am sorry, I just have to ask you a few questions, and then you’ll be free to go.”

Poker face…

Alright, I just wanna ask, why are you running so fast these days? It’s becoming much hard for us to walk with you and match your pace.”

Oh really? What’s wrong with me running fast – it’s my good stamina, good health, and strong legs na? Are you jealous of me, or am I running on your legs?

“Time uncle, please don’t do this, don’t behave as if you don’t know anything. Listen, let me brief you the exact problem. If you’ll keep on running this furiously fast; if years will pass like months and months like days…how are we going to prepare for anything in life? Say I start preparing for an exam, or work towards achieving any goal with a year in hand, but the 'year' passes like 'months'. The preparation for which I initially had a year in hand eventually ends up with me getting only a month. Another thing - say I get some rare good moments, and days of laughter & delight; and you make them all pass like Swoosh! Why Time uncle? Why don't you make all the good moments stay with me for quite some time?

Hey, human! Why do you sound this lamentable? Don’t act as a victim or as if you are the only one for whom I am running this fast. You are blaming me for making all the good times pass abnormally fast, but unless you have buried your head in the sand, can’t you see that I am also making all the miserable times to pass even faster.  And you are talking about some preparation thing; what are you preparing for – UPSC/IIT/CAT/NEET…? Aren’t their students cracking these exams? There certainly are hundreds and thousands clearing the exams with flying colors. Who are you? You aren’t unique; everyone is getting the same amount of time, so stop talking immature trash.

“Exam preparation thing is fine; I agree Time uncle. I know it’s just my indiscipline towards studies that I am making these filthy excuses. But what about those happy moments? Everytime I feel for a moment to stop as it’s so lively and full of glee; without even making me savor or cherish it properly, you just make it all a past within minutes! Why do you do so?

Okay, I totally agree with you. But the thing is, you are just seeing the wrong side of mine without giving any thought to my good. Why aren’t you seeing that I am also making the challenging moments, difficult times, and hard days pass quickly, in fact way more faster than the good ones? Don’t you remember the killing 2nd Covid wave, which almost took the life of your dad, and many a relative; don’t you remember the grievous months of April, May, and June? Those horrible times could have just lasted for long, and hurt you excruciatingly for even longer. Still, it was me who made it pass ‘somehow in no time.’ Why are you this negative, why do you humans see the negative side of everything, why don’t you use your brains and do some critical thinking before concluding?

I hope I have cleared all your queries. It’s time for me to leave now. It's just six more days, and I have to make the 2022s ball rolling. I wish you a pleasing New Year! Remember the points I have made; they’ll help you throughout your life.

These were like actual Words of Wisdom for me Time uncle. I can’t thank you enough. Will begin the new year keeping all these in my psyche. Well, wait…one last question – when are we going to meet again Time uncle; a year later, same day?

Amm…no! A month later :)

Ah, haha...got it uncle. But I’ll make sure I’ll extract the best out of this ‘year-long month’ this time. Merry Christmas! Bye, and thank you so much again.
