Of all the times I have felt down or depressed, or found myself engulfed in the mayhem of toxic thoughts, or stuck in overthinking over trivial peculiar matters; upon investing heavily into some serious brainstorming, I have ultimately realized the sole reason behind it. Having been affected by the repercussions of the above on my overall personal, professional, and emotional well-being, I was long and desperately looking for a solution to get rid of this. And finally, after hours of pondering and using my mind to work at the best of its capabilities, I have got the lacuna that was constantly emptying my happiness, focus, and peace’ tank, and was making me perform sub-optimum in almost every walk of life.
Boredom – that’s the biggest culprit and the sole agenda of this post. It must be thanked and blamed for most of the negatives that you face in your life. That’s an irony that in the present world, where there are innumerable sources for you to feed your mind with sheer happiness with dopamine release, stimulate your senses with the production of oxytocin, and make your body groove with the adrenaline rush. A lot of people every now and then still find themselves broiled in the vicious trap of boredom. I have called it a vicious circle as it doesn’t work linearly, but works in a web, that eventually ruins not just one or two, but many parts of your day-to-day life. It not just hampers your present, and makes you feel anxious in the moment, but actually plays ugly games with your mind & mood for a much longer duration of time.

Let us now understand the entire cycle of boredom from the very scratch to the pinnacle, and delve deep into the detrimental effects of it. Just like a trap that’s set by a hunter to catch a tiger, that not just captures the animal, but actually cost him his life; boredom follows the same pattern that it not just spoils your mood in the present, but actually causes you to suffer for days, weeks or sometimes even months. Overthinking that you indulge in as a result of boredom, wreaks havoc on your state of calm and overall peace for a long. It unwillingly drags you into the dismal times of melancholy, and forces you to brood over your past mistakes, regrets, and laments that already have ruined enough in your life. The more you remain invested in the dulls of your past life, or mindlessly try to peep into the impending future through the opaque wall; the more you’ll find yourself immersed head-to-toe into the gloomy ocean concentrated with utterly irrelevant worries and apprehensions.
Understanding
the problem, the central question that now arises is ‘how to keep yourself
clear of this’? As the adage goes, ‘prevention is better than cure’. We’ll
remain glued to the crux of the above to find the solution to this problem as
well. Instead of working on keeping our thoughts in check, emboldening over mental
health so as to not get easily flawed under the deluge of past regrets & future
uncertainties, and following the healthy practices of yoga, meditation, and
exercise to feed our brain with the essentials of a healthy mind; we would
rather focus more and divert our attention towards nipping the problem in the
bud itself, i.e. not to get bored in the very first place. Why take a risk of
getting into the toxic cycle of boredom, and remaining overly confident of not
letting it affect your entire day. What if I say, it’s almost impossible to get
yourself out of the cycle of boredom without getting your mental &
emotional prosperity sabotaged? Hence, it becomes almost imperative in this
case to hit the nail at the perfect spot, and not wait for the time to cure the
damage, by getting overly confident of not letting the dire repercussions of
boredom affect you.
So, from now on, anytime in the future, you feel down, anxious, or depressed worrying over utterly shi**y things; promptly get aware of the fact there’s absolutely no issue as lethal as you’re building up in your mind, but it’s all the result of overthinking (that literally is showing its appalling face, and getting triggered when you are getting bored). The most effective way to get yourself out of all these self-created unpleasant, and tormenting times is to keep doing something, keeping yourself engaged in some kind of activity, and distancing yourself miles away from the menace of boredom. Pursue your hobby – study (LOL), play, sing, dance, read, write, or even count the stars in the night sky, but for God’s sake don’t get bored! As boredom not just makes you unhappy and anxious in the moment, but makes you suffer for way longer duration of time. Doing this won’t just miraculously prevent you from any kind of self-invited toxicity and sorrow, but also give a lively, energetic, and happening boost to your dull, lackadaisical, and distressing mood.
